VIP Meet and Greet vs Airport Transfer: They Are Not the Same Booking

People search for these two together and quotes sometimes get compared side by side, as if they cover the same ground. They do not, and the confusion causes real problems at the airport.

An airport transfer is transportation, nothing more. A driver waits at arrivals, usually holding a name board, and takes you from the airport to wherever you are headed. It starts once you have already cleared immigration, collected your bags, and walked out through the terminal by yourself. The service begins at the kerb.

VIP meet and greet starts much earlier than that — at the aircraft door or the jet bridge. A representative walks you through a priority immigration lane, handles your baggage, and takes you through customs before you ever reach the kerb. The car ride at the end is usually part of it, but it is the last step of a longer process, not the whole service.

This is where people get tripped up. Someone books “airport transfer” expecting a person to meet them at the gate, then wonders why a driver is simply waiting outside arrivals instead. It happens in reverse too — someone books meet and greet assuming ground transport is automatically included, only to find it priced as an add-on with certain providers. Read what is actually included before you pay for either.

On cost: a transfer is priced on distance and vehicle type, a straightforward transportation fee. Meet and greet is priced on the labour involved — staff positioned at the aircraft, priority lane access, baggage handling — with transport often added on top. It costs more than a transfer alone because it is doing considerably more work between the plane and the car.

Book a transfer by itself if you are comfortable clearing immigration and collecting bags on your own, and all you actually need is a reliable ride afterward.

Book VIP meet and greet if you want the whole arrival handled, not just the drive at the end — especially for business travel where time at immigration matters, or when you are hosting a client and the arrival itself is part of the impression you want to make.

AirportAssist runs both services separately for exactly this reason, since bundling them by default tends to overcharge travellers who only need one or the other.

The short version: a transfer solves the ride. Meet and greet solves everything from the aircraft door to that same destination. Know which problem you are actually trying to fix before you book.

What Actually Determines the Cost of Airport Assistance

Ask five providers for a quote on the same trip and you will likely get five different numbers. That is not a sign that someone is overcharging you — a handful of real variables move the price, and once you know what they are, comparing quotes gets a lot easier.
