The Adventure Seeker's Guide to Turkey: From Paragliding in Oludeniz to Hot Air Ballooning in Cappadocia

If there is one place in the whole world that never ceases to transfix travelers across the globe, it is Turkey. With the best of both worlds (European and Asian), Turkey is a rare mix of everything good and nice. If you are an adventurous traveler looking to visit Turkey any time soon, then this blog is specifically written for you. Gain a general idea of what Turkey offers and the best time to visit the place, along with a small itinerary for making the guide complete.

When Is The Best Time to Visit Turkey?

Turkey is a beauty in all seasons and climates. But to view the country at its all-time best, we suggest you plan a trip during autumn and spring. As the country has a mix of all kinds of temperatures and landscapes, depending on the places you visit, the best time also differs. But you cannot go wrong with spring and autumn. Mid-May to late June and September and October are the perfect times to visit Turkey if historical sites and cultural elements are what you would like to explore the most. People say that the best times to go to the beach in Turkey are in June, July, August, and September. If you are a fan of festivities and would like to be a part of it, like the Istanbul Arts Festival, then mid-summer is the time to go. In total, depending on your purpose and preference, you can choose different times to visit Turkey.

Top Travel Destinations For You To Check Out

The country is filled with so many wonderful places that one could make a really long list of places to visit in Turkey. But that would defeat the purpose of this blog, so here are the top 6 places you absolutely MUST visit when you are in Tukey:

1. Cappadocia

Have you ever wished to visit a place that looks exactly like something out of a fairytale? If yes, then do visit Cappadocia while you are in Turkey. The biggest tourist attraction of this place is the Fairy Chimneys, which is something I cannot describe in words. What makes it even more otherworldly is the hot air balloon trips you get to take in the early mornings, where you will be able to appreciate the place from a whole different angle altogether. The Goreme Open-Air Museum with its rock-cut churches and frescoes, is yet another place to give a visit to in Cappadocia. Fan of underground cities? Kaymakli and Derinkuyu are ancient underground cities that have been carved exquisitely into the volcanic rocks of the underground. Lastly, if you are a nature fanatic, visit Rose Valley and Love Valley, where you can go horseback riding through these beautiful landscapes.

2. Hagia Sophia

Located in Istanbul, Turkey, this architectural marvel was once a cathedral, which was then converted into a mosque and is currently a museum. If you are a fan of the Dan Brown books and have appreciated the way he describes architecture, then you shouldn't miss visiting Hagia Sophia. The building is built on Byzantine and Ottoman architecture, and you get a rare chance to see the Christian and Muslim elements mixed in the way the architecture is. As you ascend to the upper galleries of the museum, you get a chance to see the panoramic beauty of Istanbul even better. While you are there, make sure to take in the beauty of the dome and its mosaic design as well.

3. Antalya

Antalya is home to the historical old town of Kaleici and is the absolutely magical little town on earth. The town is filled with historical landmarks and houses built in the Ottoman-era model. The town lines the Medeterenian coastline, and the view is nothing less than breathtaking. The beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters give the place an ethereal look altogether. Aspendos here boasts one of the best-preserved Roman theater presents. You get a chance to explore this wonderful city and dine at some of the most exquisite and authentic Turkish restaurants. And while you are there, make a visit to Hadrian's Gate and the Clock Tower as well. Also, there are beautiful beaches like the Konyaalti or Lara Beach for you to relax and enjoy the day.

4. Pamukkale

How do you feel about the movie Frozen? Or about snow in general? If you are someone who is looking for an ethereal experience that involves icy white landscapes and hot springs (yeah, the place is actually warm despite how cold it looks), then Pamukkale is the one place that will tick all your boxes. They have unique terraces formed by mineral-rich thermal waters, where you can walk barefoot on the terraces and enjoy the panoramic views. While you are at Pamukkale, space some time to visit the ancient city of Hierapolis, including the theater and Apollo Temple. Cleopatra’s pool is said to have some amazing healing properties, so make sure to take a dip there.

5. Blue Mosque

Also known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, the Blue Mosque has the most jaw-dropping architecture, especially on the inside. With six minarets, this mosque is nothing less than a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture. The striking blue tiles, which adore the interior walls of the mosque, give it the name. Here, you can attend prayer services or guided tours to learn about the mosque's history. Close to the mosque are the Hagia Sophia museum and the Hippodrome, so yay!

6. Ephesus

Ever wanted to visit the Temple of Artemis or the Library of Celsus? This ancient city with Roma ruins is well-preserved and maintained, making it an excellent location for history lovers and enthusiasts to visit. They have intricately decorated terrace houses showcasing ancient Roman lifestyles. The marble streets of Ephesus make it impossible for tourists not to fall in love with this beautiful city.
